DESCRIPTION: “Paradoxia” takes a single Player on a journey across the Realm of Paradoxia after a disastrous attack destroys 1 of the 7 Core Balloons that keep the realm afloat. The Player is a survivor of the attack and is sent on a quest to stop other attacks from happening…but focusing on another “attack” is the least of our hero’s problems. Everything from natural disasters to lack of workers can bring down the Core Balloons, and our Hero needs to figure out what they think is the most important thing to focus on. “Paradoxia” was designed to teach an overview of multifaceted HLS approaches in an introductory or orientation course. Through the use of Game-Based Learning, Players can learn about the varying definitions of Homeland Security and how they compete as well as work together. The game also gauges students paths and decisions to sculpt a student profile based on: “What does Homeland Security mean to you?”
I worked with four faculty SMEs to create a game-based version of Homeland Security curriculum, as well as provide valuable information for professors on how to best engage students.
